Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Cervical Cytology
Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Gynecological Histopathology
Split of time: 50% cervical cytology and 50% gynecological histopathology.
Job Responsibilities
Clinical Lead for the East of England Cervical Screening Service
Provide clinical leadership, development and performance of the cervical screening laboratory service.
Work with managerial staff to ensure efficient use of resources, robust clinical governance systems and strategic service planning.
Lead inter‑organisational cooperation and communication to maintain quality across the East of England pathway.
Pathway Manager for the East of England ICB Region
Lead and coordinate communication with NHS England, NHSE Screening team, QA Team, Cancer Registry, regional NHS Trusts, GP surgeries, community clinics, sexual health clinics, HM military and HM Prison institutions.
Ensure professional, well‑managed arrangements meet national screening requirements.
Maintain efficient sample transport links, IT connectivity and referrals to regional colposcopy units.
Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Cervical Cytology
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of cytology, provide clinical advice on patient management and follow‑up following national guidance.
Provide specialist training to departmental staff and service users.
Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Gynecological Histopathology
Provide a clinical diagnostic reporting service for both cervical cytology and gynecological histology specimens.
Lead investigations that precipitate clinical action and support high‑quality, safe and compassionate care.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
MSc or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
IBMS/RCPath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Cervical Cytology.
Stage C conjoint RCPath/IBMS examination for BMS Histopathology reporting in Gynecological Pathology.
Essential Experience
Highly developed specialist knowledge of cytology and gynecological histology practice.
Desirable
Breaking Bad News Training.
Teaching, training and lecturing experience.
Aptitude
Enthusiastic, positive and highly motivated; able to relate well to all levels of personnel.
Skills
High level of interpersonal and communication and leadership skills.
Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills.
