Consultant Interventional Radiologist

New Today

Consultant Interventional Radiologist

Closing date: 27 April 2026.

This is a consultant appointment for a radiologist with subspecialty training in interventional radiology. Oncological intervention or paediatric IR skills would be a bonus.

The post will provide cross‑site cover, based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.

The successful candidate will supervise interventional lists covering procedures such as US/CT‑guided biopsy and drainage procedures, venous access, urological and HPB intervention. There is also the possibility to perform and further develop more subspecialist work such as PCNL, embolisation of prostate, uterine and testicular tissue, paediatric AVM therapy, ablation of liver and lung lesions, and musculoskeletal intervention. There is currently no dedicated peripheral vascular intervention, but this will develop in the near future, encouraging new technique development, especially in paediatric intervention.

AAC Assessment and Panel: 11th June 2026 (AM and PM).

Main duties of the job

The applicant should be on the Specialist register of the GMC and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent.

The new appointee will be expected to participate in the IR on‑call rota covering Chelsea and Westminster, Royal Marsden and Royal Brompton Hospitals. Call frequency will be 1:8 weeks per year and may include emergencies outside routine hours. Provision of IR at the West Middlesex site is currently limited, so emergency cases are transferred to Chelsea & Westminster. Early plans will expand IR at West Middlesex with a new IR suite in the coming years.

The job plan will include sessions dedicated to general and cross‑sectional reporting, requiring the candidate to report body CT and MRI. The 10 PA contract comprises 8.5 DCC sessions and 1.5 SPA session and may change to accommodate on‑call requirements. The proposed plan may also allow future extended 7‑day service requirement across the Trust. The successful candidate will partake in local MDTs and each consultant has a dedicated PACS reporting station, PC and laptop for remote image viewing when on call.
