Job Overview Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its Ophthalmology services and we’re looking for a passionate Consultant to lead in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus, Cataracts, and Neuro‑Ophthalmology. This is an exciting new role designed to support the growth of our department and enhance specialist care across our sites. Key Responsibilities
Deliver high‑quality secondary care, paediatric urgent care, and strabismus services for both children and adults. Manage a high volume of referrals within the Trust from an increasing geographical area. Deliver elective and acute surgery for Paediatric ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus, and Neuro‑ophthalmology. Provide support, training and supervision for junior medical staff, allied health professionals, and Ophthalmic Nurses. Collaborate with orthoptists, optometrists, advanced orthoptists, clinical fellows, and specialty doctors.
Programmed Activities (Full‑Time)
8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) including patient‑related administration. 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).
Qualifications
Sub‑speciality interest and proven competence in Paediatric ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus, and Neuro‑ophthalmology. Evidence of capability in all disease‑management domains, including elective and acute surgery. Experience in delivering multidisciplinary and urgent care services.
