Salary Scale

£111,430 – £148,064 per annum.

Borders General Hospital is a modern 320‑bed DGH serving the rural Borders area, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh, with excellent schools, local amenities, good transport, leisure facilities and affordable housing, offering a high quality of life.

The Role

The successful applicant will join the current substantive team of Gastroenterologists/General Physicians at Borders General Hospital.

  • Attend one general gastroenterology clinic per week in NHS Borders, when available.
  • Contribute to elective and emergency endoscopy procedures.
  • Participate in GP outpatient clinic referrals, with a target of accommodating all referrals within a 12‑week standard; urgent and suspected colon cancer referrals seen within 2 weeks, usually through the endoscopy pathway.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and maintain accurate clinical records.

Qualifications & Registration

  • Hold MRCP or equivalent certificate.
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of interview date).

Applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom, which may be evidence through visa, settled or pre‑settled status, or sponsorship. If you do not have the necessary eligibility, sponsoring may be possible under a UK Skilled Worker / Health & Care Worker Visa, subject to employer licensing and salary threshold.

Criminal Records Check

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, a regulated role may require a different level of criminal records check.
