Responsibilities

Provide input into the Selby part of the North Yorkshire and York service, a Single Point of Access (SPA) triaged telephone consultation service that supports families and referrers.

Work collaboratively with a consultant colleague to assess all presentations requiring psychiatrists from secondary schools and feeder primary schools within the Selby sector. Hold a caseload of roughly 100 patients, with ~2 new assessments each week, and co‑work situations with a multidisciplinary team (MDT), care coordinator and non‑psychiatrist lead professionals, except where solely psychiatrist input is formally agreed.

Deliver services in line with TEWV Clinical Pathways, providing high‑quality evidence‑based care and a brief intervention model aimed at empowering young people and families to achieve good mental health and well‑being.

Lead service change, participate in quality improvement, and support training and education for under‑ and postgraduate staff as appropriate.

Qualifications and Competences

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment, with a qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • MRCPsych and any additional clinical qualifications required.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty and in good standing with GMC.
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective, wide medical knowledge and ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English; ability to make evidence‑based decisions and meet duties under the MHA and MCA.
  • Demonstrated leadership within multidisciplinary teams, quality improvement, and service delivery; able to adapt and lead service change.
  • Academic skills and lifelong learning: ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching, research, service evaluation, and audit, with evidence of achievement such as publications, awards, or presentations.
