The Perinatal Mental Health Service welcomes applications for the role of Consultant Psychiatrist for Uned Gobaith Mother & Baby Unit.

Uned Gobaith is a Regional 6 Bed Specialist Mother & Baby Psychiatric Inpatient Unit in South Wales.

The service welcomes a motivated and patient centred Individual to join the multi-disciplinary team. Presenting an exciting opportunity for the post holder to contribute to the ongoing development of the service & shaping Perinatal Mental Health Inpatient Care for Wales.

Main duties of the job

Provide evidence based Mental Health Assessment, diagnosis and treatment to Women/ Birthing Individuals at increased risk of, or presenting with, symptoms of mental illness during the perinatal period, including patients.

Undertake thorough assessment of risk, prepare risk formulation and management plans as part of a Multi-disciplinary Team for patients admitted to MBU.

Fulfill role of Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to the MBU.

Contribute to the safeguarding of Vulnerable groups by practicing in line with All Wales Safeguarding policy. Including the preparation of reports, attending meetings and building positive working relationships with multi-agency colleagues.

Provide professional Consultation and Education to professionals working with women / birthing individuals and their families across the perinatal mental health pathway.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the GMC
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Psychiatry or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
  • Licensed to practice
  • Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education

Experience

  • Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff ("Working Together")
  • Values partnership with other agencies ("Working Together")
  • Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
  • Experience of Working with Patients experiencing mental illness, and their families, during the perinatal period.
  • Experience of research in Perinatal Mental Health or Experience of research in subject relevant to the speciality ie Women and Child Health
  • Experience of professional practice within Perinatal Mental Health Services

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients, colleagues, relatives and staff; communicate openly and honestly and explain things clearly ("Caring for each other")
  • Excellent knowledge in Perinatal Psychiatry
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Ability to meet all duties under MHA and MCA
  • Ability to assess & manage risk underpinned by consideration of current evidence base, clinical experience, and MDT perspectives.
  • Ability to work co-productively with Service Users (and their relatives) ie the production of care & treatment plans & the design and delivery of service improvement projects
