About the Role

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership for the Enfield North and South CORE Teams, based in Silver St and Lucas House in Enfield respectively. The role offers up to 10 Programmed Activities per week – 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA). The post can also be taken up as two part‑time posts.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the MDT promoting respect for all professional groups and focusing upon coherent and integrated teamwork.
  • Be Section 12(2) approved and have approved clinician status; participate in the Trust‑wide Section 12 daytime rota.
  • Provide second opinions for consultant colleagues if requested.
  • Keep up with administration and note‑keeping on the electronic patient record system in a timely manner, including letters to GPs, Dialog+ and risk assessments.
  • Assist with Serious Incident investigations and complaints if requested.
  • Keep up to date with mandatory training.
  • Attend and participate in Consultants’ and Management meetings to keep informed of service issues and developments.
  • Manage an established caseload of patients with SMI, many of whom use medication.
  • Contribute to the management of non‑SMI clients in collaboration with colleagues from psychological therapies service streams and other staff groups.
  • Act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for the clients of the Locality Team treated on a Community Treatment Order (CTO, S17A MHA) under the PCN.
  • Contribute to the assessment of newly referred cases per month and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines.
  • Comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures.
  • Complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work.
  • Supervise and facilitate learning to medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.
  • Participate in the Enfield consultant psychiatrist on‑call rota (1:32).
  • Participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practice at intended start date.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • Section 12 approved or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • Excellent knowledge in the specialty and clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective with wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Decision making based on evidence and experience, including contribution of others.
  • Ability to meet duties under the MHA and MCA.

Desirable

  • In good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
  • Qualifications or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Open Dialogue training.
  • Additional clinical qualification.
  • Experience in data gathering and management.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or a comparable service.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
  • Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Basic computer skills, including ability to use e‑mail and Internet.
  • Excellent knowledge in the specialty.
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Experienced in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.

  • Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients.
