Job Description
Contentious Probate Solicitor | NQ+ | Farnborough
When families face disputes over wills, estates or inheritance, the legal issues are often only part of the challenge. This is your opportunity to build a career where your expertise, empathy and judgement can make a real difference at some of the most important moments in people’s lives.
The firm
With a history spanning more than 180 years, this firm has built a reputation founded on trust, expertise and a deep commitment to its clients. From those roots, it has grown into one of the most respected practices in the country, now providing advice across the UK and increasingly to international clients too.
What hasn’t changed is the culture. This is a genuinely collaborative place to work: colleagues share knowledge freely, celebrate each other’s successes and step in with support when challenges arise. You’ll never feel isolated here. Whether you’re sounding out ideas with a partner or mentoring junior colleagues, teamwork is part of the everyday.
The firm’s full-service approach means clients can turn to them for every stage of their journey, however complex their needs. By drawing on expertise across departments, they ensure clients feel supported from start to finish and that no problem is too big to solve.
The role
This is an opportunity to build your career in a team that specialises in one of the most sensitive and personal areas of law. Contentious probate work often arises at difficult moments in people’s lives, involving disputes over wills, estates, trusts and inheritance claims. As part of the team, you’ll play a vital role in helping clients navigate these challenges with clarity, reassurance and practical solutions.
Your caseload will be diverse, covering the full range of contentious probate matters. No two cases will be the same, giving you the chance to combine technical skill with empathy as you guide clients through disputes that are often complex, and always deeply human.
You’ll also have the chance to collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider firm, from family and property specialists to litigators, ensuring clients benefit from joined-up advice. At the same time, you’ll begin building the lasting client relationships that not only underpin your career but will also help shape the future growth of the team and the firm.
About you
You have experience in contentious probate, trust disputes, inheritance disputes or related litigation work. You bring strong technical knowledge across these areas and excellent client-care skills, with the ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy. You have strong organisational skills to manage a varied and busy caseload. A STEP qualification, or a willingness to work towards one, is preferred but not essential.
Benefits
- Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
- Generous bonus scheme
- Free on-site parking
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
- 25 days’ annual leave, plus an additional Christmas shutdown day
If you’re ready to take your career forward in contentious probate, this is a chance to join a firm where you’ll be supported, challenged and given the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives. Apply today, or contact Harrison for a conversation
