Job Description
Location: Manchester (Hybrid working)\n Contract Length: Initial 3 months (strong extension potential)\n Rate: £40-£50 per hour\n IR35 Status: Outside IR35\n Sector: Green Energy / Renewables / Sustainable Infrastructure\n\nOverview\n\nWe are working with an innovative green energy engineering company based in Manchester that is delivering projects across renewable and low-carbon energy systems.\n\nThey are looking to bring in an experienced Control Systems Engineer on a contract basis to support the design, development, and delivery of control systems for energy and sustainability-focused projects.\n\nThis role offers hybrid working, flexibility, and the opportunity to contribute to technically interesting projects with a strong environmental impact.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDesign, develop, and modify control systems for green energy and renewable projects\n\nPLC programming and configuration for automated energy systems\n\nDevelopment of:\n\nFunctional Design Specifications (FDS)\n\nControl philosophies\n\nI/O lists and control narratives\n\nHMI/SCADA development and integration\n\nSupport system testing, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities\n\nWork closely with:\n\nElectrical design engineers\n\nProject managers\n\nSite and commissioning teams\n\nEnsure systems comply with:\n\nRelevant UK and international standards\n\nCybersecurity and safety requirements where applicable\n\nProvide technical support during installation and commissioning phases\n\nEssential Skills & Experience\n\nProven experience as a Control Systems Engineer within:\n\nRenewable energy\n\nGreen energy\n\nPower, utilities, or energy-adjacent industries\n\nStrong PLC programming experience (one or more of the following):\n\nSiemens\n\nRockwell / Allen Bradley\n\nBeckhoff\n\nSchneider\n\nExperience with SCADA / HMI systems\n\nStrong understanding of industrial automation and control architectures\n\nAbility to work autonomously in a contract environment\n\nComfortable working on a hybrid basis with site and office presence as required\n\nDesirable Experience\n\nExperience with:\n\nSolar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, or low-carbon energy projects\n\nKnowledge of:\n\nFunctional safety\n\nIEC / BS standards\n\nPrevious outside IR35 contract experience\n\nCommissioning or site-based controls experience
