We are working with a well-established law firm to recruit an experienced Credit Controller & Biller into a key dual-function role. This is an excellent opportunity for a legal finance professional with at least three years’ experience in a law firm environment who enjoys working across both credit control and private billing.
The role plays a vital part in supporting cash flow, billing accuracy and client relationships, working closely with fee earners, Heads of Department and the accounts team.
The role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing aged debt, ensuring timely and compliant billing, and maintaining accurate financial records. Key duties include:
* Reviewing daily aged debt alerts and issuing reminder correspondence to clients
* Liaising with Heads of Department before escalation, including letters before action
* Monitoring aged debt, unallocated cash and client credit balances, taking appropriate action
* Maintaining clear records of all credit control activity within the case management system
* Running monthly aged WIP and private client reports, prompting billing and client-to-office transfers where relevant
* Processing MCOL matters where required, liaising with the Head of Dispute Resolution
* Raising private bills promptly and accurately in line with SRA Accounts Rules
* Issuing bills with clear breakdowns of work and supporting documentation
* Liaising with fee earners, Chambers and experts to ensure timely billing and reconciliation of disbursements
* Responding to client billing queries in a professional and confident manner
About you
* Proven experience as a Credit Controller and/or Biller within a law firm
* Strong understanding of legal accounting and client ledgers
* Familiarity with the MCOL process
* Confident communicator, able to work with stakeholders at all levels
* Highly organised, proactive and detail-focused
* Strong IT skills, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel
Working hours & benefits
* Full-time, 35 hours per week (9.30am–5.30pm, Monday to Friday)
* 25 days’ holiday, rising with service
