Role Overview As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance, and fault resolution of a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Your primary objective will be to ensure 100% system uptime through proactive maintenance, robust change control, and rapid incident response. You will also play a key role in coordinating subcontractors, overseeing planned preventative maintenance, and supporting the delivery of a resilient, compliant, and high-performing engineering service. Key Responsibilities - Operate, monitor, and maintain all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. - Continuously monitor, log, and troubleshoot plant and equipment, resolving incidents efficiently. - Manage and support critical building systems, including: - Low and medium voltage electrical systems - Mechanical plant and HVAC systems - UPS and generator systems - Fire detection and suppression systems - Domestic and chilled water systems - Carry out authorised low and high voltage switching operations in line with safety procedures. - Utilise and interpret data from BMS (Building Management System), PMS (Power Monitoring System), and CMS (Control & Monitoring System). - Support and oversee the delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes. - Coordinate subcontracted engineers, ensuring all works meet safety, quality, and compliance standards. - Adhere to operational and change management processes, using service desk and ticketing systems to manage tasks and incidents. Experience & Qualifications (Desirable) - Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent technical training. - HND (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred). - Experience working in high-pressure, mission-critical environments such as data centres or critical facilities. - Industry-recognised certifications (e.g. NCC, REC, or equivalent). - Strong working knowledge of: - Low and medium voltage electrical systems - HVAC systems and mechanical plant - Electrical safety regulations and best practice Key Attributes - Strong problem-solving skills, with experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA). - Familiarity with structured change management environments. - High attention to detail with a strong commitment to safety and compliance. - Clear, confident communicator with strong teamwork skills. - Self-motivated, proactive, and calm under pressure. - Experience using BMS systems and CAFM/PPM platforms.
