Customs Clerk - Colnbrook, LHR - Up to £29,500

An international freight forwarder is seeking a Customs Clerk to join their growing team based in Colnbrook, near Heathrow. This role supports customs operations by ensuring the timely clearance of goods and effective coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Job Type: Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday - 08:30 - 17:30

Salary: Up to £30,000 (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities

Support the Customs Manager in improving departmental efficiency and competitiveness
Assist in implementing business development strategies for customs services
Accurately complete ENS (Safety & Security) declarations, including all related financial, legal, and invoicing elements
Ensure all customs declarations are completed in full compliance with current regulations
Complete operational tasks within required timeframes and promptly report any amendments
Carry out ad-hoc checks on customer entries and provide weekly reports to the line manager
Maintain and effectively use internal operational systems
Ensure accurate processing of clearance instructions from third parties
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal departments
Support compliance activities relating to customs procedures
Contribute to improvements in workflow efficiency and customer processes
Ensure all required reports are completed and submitted on time
Complete invoicing within 48 hours of activity
Provide cover for colleagues during holidays and sickness as required

Requirements

Minimum 2 years' UK experience in imports/exports and customs compliance
Strong understanding of UK and EU customs requirements, particularly imports
Experience within road transport, logistics, or haulage (desirable)
Working knowledge of CDS (Customs Declaration Service) for imports and exports
Understanding of transit procedures and ETSF (desirable)
Experience handling HMRC amendments and reclaims
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Capable of working both independently and as part of a team
