Domestic Abuse Practitioner (BAME Specialist)
Leicester
Permanent
20 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
Salary: £13,624 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Domestic Abuse Practitioner to support BAME women and their children within a specialist refuge service in Leicester.
You will provide safe, culturally sensitive support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence, and other forms of harm. This is a frontline role where you will help residents rebuild their confidence, independence, and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage referrals, admissions, and risk/needs assessments
  • Provide 1:1 emotional and practical support, including safety planning
  • Support access to housing, benefits, legal, health, and education services
  • Advocate for residents and attend key appointments
  • Deliver culturally appropriate support to BAME communities
  • Develop and review personalised support plans
  • Support safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the refuge
  • Maintain accurate records and case notes
  • Participate in on-call/out-of-hours support

Requirements

  • Experience supporting BAME women affected by domestic abuse or similar
  • Background in social care, support work, or safeguarding (2-3 years)
  • Ability to speak at least one relevant BAME language
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage complex and high-risk situations
  • Flexible approach to working hours (including on-call)
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)


Desirable

  • Experience in the voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of NRPF, immigration, or complex needs
  • First Aid qualification
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
