Job Description
About Our Client
We are partnered with a highly regarded, international main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, technically demanding projects across major European markets. With a well-established presence in the UK and a growing footprint across key strategic regions, the business is recognised for its ability to execute large-scale developments for a blue-chip client base, underpinned by robust governance and a commercially disciplined approach.
The organisation specialises in the delivery of high-value, mission-critical and advanced technology facilities, operating at the forefront of modern construction methodologies. Their project portfolio spans major infrastructure and technically complex builds, requiring a high level of coordination, precision and commercial control across long delivery cycles.
They offer an environment suited to senior professionals seeking both stability and influence — with clear reporting structures, access to senior leadership, and the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping commercial outcomes on landmark developments.
What They Are Looking For
Our client is seeking to appoint a Commercial Lead to take ownership of the commercial function on major, complex builds, based out of their London office. This is a senior leadership role, typically reporting into the Commercial Director or Project Director, with oversight of project commercial teams and full responsibility for commercial performance across assigned projects.
The role has been created to support a growing pipeline of large-scale project wins across Europe, requiring strong leadership to drive commercial governance, manage risk, and ensure consistent delivery excellence. You will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, leading project teams, and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships throughout the lifecycle of major developments.
This position will suit a commercially astute leader from a Tier 1 contractor background who is confident operating in complex environments. You will be comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on involvement, and capable of influencing both internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
Why This Role Is Unique
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact commercial leadership role on some of the most technically challenging projects in the market, without requiring prior experience in the specific asset class. The business is open to individuals from large-scale construction backgrounds who bring strong commercial fundamentals and leadership capability.
The role offers genuine long-term progression, with clear pathways into senior leadership and the opportunity to shape both project outcomes and broader commercial strategy within a growing European portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial function across major, complex construction projects
- Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with project and business objectives
- Oversee cost planning, forecasting, and financial reporting processes
- Manage risk, opportunities, and commercial governance frameworks
- Lead procurement strategy and subcontractor engagement
- Oversee contract administration and ensure compliance with contractual obligations
- Drive CVR processes and ensure accurate commercial reporting
- Manage and mentor commercial teams across projects
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders
- Support dispute resolution and final account negotiations
- Collaborate closely with project and operational leadership to drive performance
Criteria for the Role
- Proven experience in a senior commercial role within a Tier 1 main contractor
- Strong background delivering large-scale, complex construction projects
- Excellent commercial acumen and understanding of project financial management
- Experience leading and developing commercial teams
- Strong knowledge of contract administration and procurement strategies
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate effectively in high-value, high-pressure project environments
What’s On Offer
A highly competitive salary of circa £150,000, complemented by a comprehensive package including bonus, pension, and additional benefits aligned with a senior leadership position.
This is a career-defining opportunity to join a business with a strong pipeline of complex projects across Europe, offering exposure to high-profile developments and the chance to step into a strategic leadership role.
You will benefit from clear progression pathways, access to senior decision-makers, and the ability to shape commercial outcomes within a high-performing, well-structured organisation.
