The Opportunity
We're looking for an SC Cleared Data Engineer to join a high-impact delivery team working on secure, cloud-based data solutions for a Central Government project. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on meaningful, large-scale programmes while enjoying a predominantly remote working model, with limited travel to London.

You'll be designing and building robust, scalable data solutions on AWS, using modern engineering practices and contributing to end-to-end delivery in a fast-moving, agile environment.

The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and supporting secure, scalable data solutions using Python, SQL, and AWS cloud services (Scala desirable).

You'll work across the full delivery lifecycle — from requirements and design through to implementation, optimisation and handover — ensuring solutions are secure, maintainable and aligned with public-sector standards and governance.

Key responsibilities include:
Designing, developing and maintaining secure, scalable data solutions using Python and SQL.
Collaborating with product owners, subject-matter experts and architects to translate requirements into technical designs, user stories and release plans using agile methods.
Implementing strong security controls, including role-based access, data protection and environment strategies.
Contributing to application lifecycle management (ALM), including source control, solution packaging and automated deployment pipelines.
Optimising performance, reliability and usability of existing solutions, managing technical debt and supporting 3rd-line incident investigations.
Producing clear technical documentation to support service handover and ongoing support.
Sharing best practice through demos, knowledge-sharing sessions and contribution to internal standards and reusable components.

The Person
You'll be an experienced Data Engineer with a strong engineering mindset, comfortable working in secure, cloud-based environments and collaborating with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll bring:
Data Engineering
A solid understanding of data engineering principles, including data modelling, data quality and reusability.
Experience designing data structures that support analytics and reporting (e.g. Power BI).
Digital & Software Engineering
Experience delivering software solutions using agile practices, including backlog management, version control and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including modularity, reusability and testability.
Hands-on experience with at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python.
Core Skills
Significant experience working with AWS cloud services.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering secure, maintainable solutions that create real business value.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to mentor others and contribute to continuous improvement.
Comfortable working in a lean, agile environment with changing priorities, showing ownership, initiative and a proactive approach.
