We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, multi-disciplinary construction contractor with a strong reputation in refurbishment, regeneration and public-sector projects across the North West.

Due to continued growth, they are creating a brand-new role for a Design & Compliance Manager (Registered Building Inspector) to sit within their Building Refurbishment division.

This is a senior-level opportunity to take ownership of compliance across complex refurbishment schemes including high-rise, retrofit and listed buildings.

The Role

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will lead on all aspects of design and regulatory compliance from procurement through to handover.

You will ensure projects align with:

  • Building Regulations
  • Building Safety Act requirements
  • Gateway 2 & 3 submissions
  • PAS 2035 / 2038 standards
  • Contractual and statutory frameworks

You will play a key role in identifying risk early, embedding robust compliance processes, and ensuring design integrity across high-risk and heritage refurbishment projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Design & Compliance throughout pre-construction, delivery and completion
  • Manage Gateway 2 & Gateway 3 submissions
  • Review tender and design documentation to identify risk and mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate architects, engineers and specialist consultants
  • Lead technical design reviews and risk workshops
  • Ensure buildability, sustainability and regulatory compliance
  • Develop internal compliance procedures and best practice standards
  • Act as a trusted advisor to delivery teams and senior leadership

About You

  • Registered Building Inspector (Class 3 preferred)
  • Class 2 RBIs with high-rise experience will also be considered
  • Strong understanding of refurbishment, retrofit and high-risk buildings
  • Detailed knowledge of the Building Safety Act and PAS 2035/2038
  • Confident interpreting complex legislation and technical documentation
  • Proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused
  • Excellent stakeholder and consultant coordination skills
