About the Company

Our client is a respected main contractor specialising in the delivery of high‑quality, traditional‑build care homes with project values typically around £10 million. With a strong pipeline of new build schemes and a reputation for delivering excellence, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will take ownership of the design process across a portfolio of up to three live projects, ensuring that all design information is delivered on time, aligns with client requirements, and supports efficient and compliant construction.

You will coordinate design activities between internal teams, architects, consultants, and subcontractors, bringing clarity, technical understanding, and leadership to each stage of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the full design process from pre‑construction through to project completion.
Lead design meetings, drive design deliverables, and ensure information release aligns with programme requirements.
Work closely with the project and commercial teams to resolve technical issues and mitigate risk.
Manage external design consultants and ensure compliance with planning, building regulations, and client specifications.
Oversee design development on multiple projects (up to 3 schemes concurrently).
Drive quality, buildability, cost efficiency, and innovation throughout the design process.
Ensure design documents are fully coordinated and suitable for construction.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in traditional build schemes and an understanding of the technical considerations involved in delivering high‑quality care homes. Ideal candidates will have:

✅ Experience delivering care home projects or strong experience in traditional build housing.
✅ A track record in design management within a contractor or developer environment.
✅ Strong coordination and communication skills, with confidence managing consultants and stakeholders.
✅ A proactive, solutions‑driven mindset.

We will also consider qualified Architects with demonstrable care home experience who are looking to transition into a client‑side or contractor‑side Design Manager role.
