Overview

We are working with a reputable construction contractor delivering a range of high-value commercial developments across London. Due to continued project wins, they are seeking an experienced Design Manager with proven commercial construction experience to join their team.

This role will suit a Design Manager who is confident managing complex design packages on commercial schemes and working closely with project, commercial, and site teams to deliver coordinated and compliant solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process from pre-construction through to project completion on commercial schemes
  • Coordinate architects, consultants, and specialist subcontractors
  • Lead design team meetings and technical workshops
  • Ensure design information is issued in line with programme and construction requirements
  • Manage design risk, change control, and technical queries
  • Work closely with commercial and construction teams to support procurement and delivery
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions for buildability and compliance


Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working on commercial construction projects (ESSENTIAL)
  • Previous experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager
  • Strong understanding of commercial building types (e.g. offices, mixed-use, retail, commercial fit-out)
  • Experience working for a main contractor or construction management organisation
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work on projects based in London


Desirable

  • Experience on large-scale or complex commercial developments
  • Relevant construction or design qualification
