We’re seeking a future team member for the role of EMEA VAT Director to join our Corporate Tax team. This role is located in London, UK.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Lead indirect tax strategy and compliance across EMEA, driving automation and process improvements using AI, RPA, and tax technology platforms to strengthen tax governance and efficiency.
  • Provide indirect tax advice on complex supply chains, transactions, new products, projects, intercompany, client and vendor contracts.
  • Partner with EMEA Banking and Asset Management Commercial teams to evaluate business change initiatives and advise on regional VAT implications. Implement strategies to optimize VAT, including seeking advice from external advisors and communicating this advice to non-technical senior audiences.
  • Proactively manage relationships with tax authorities, EMEA VAT audits and enquiries to conclusion, partnering with Finance, Legal, and business teams.
  • Develop indirect tax control frameworks to support compliance with the UK Senior Accounting Officer regime, SOX, and financial statement audits.
  • Provide advice and training to Technology and Finance teams to ensure finance/billing system modifications meet VAT reporting obligations, including e‑invoicing and VAT procedures advice to AP/AR teams. Identify opportunities to optimize VAT reporting, manage VAT risk, and deliver process improvements.
  • Stay ahead of global indirect tax developments and advise the business on risk and opportunity. Leverage industry forums and strong relationships with external advisors to drive forward BNY’s indirect tax advocacy efforts. Design and implement new processes and procedures to ensure compliance with new regulations.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Qualified ACA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent)
  • Tax experience in a large group environment or advisory firm
  • Strong UK VAT technical background and finance system automation experience, AI, RPA, machine learning, ideally in the financial services sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in explaining VAT matters to non-technical audiences
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with Oracle ERP is helpful
  • A professional focused on accountability and enhancing the existing tax risk and control framework
  • Ability to work independently and to drive a project forward to completion
  • Highly organised, proactive, able to prioritise and manage competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Analytical and process‑driven with problem‑solving skills and a risk‑based approach to decision‑making
  • Collaborative team player who fosters strong working relationships within the Corporate Tax Department, wider business, advisors, and local tax authorities
