About this role

We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead a team of 100+ engineers. The role requires a results‑oriented individual who can partner with business leaders and collaborate with top engineers on technical rigor.

You will be responsible for all technologists within our outcome teams, driving business outcomes and providing clear direction through executive‑level discussions, solution dives, and strategic roadmap debates.

You will partner with local business leadership and enterprise stakeholders to assess cost, risk, and provide clear paths forward.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a team of 100+ technologists (Software Engineers and Architects) operating at scale within a complex regulated environment.
  • Collaborate with Product and Design teams on the overall product roadmap for key business capabilities and goals.
  • Elevate talent, set clear development agendas, and manage performance across the team.
  • Drive effective delivery with pace and precision across outcome teams.
  • Engage with and manage enterprise stakeholders, primarily based in the US.
  • Manage a mix of associates and third‑party engineers, ensuring effective oversight.
  • Share wider organisational context to align the team with customer and organisational outcomes.
  • Stay current with regulatory changes and enterprise processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and engineering practices.
  • Lead technical design reviews, ensuring consistent engineering practices.
  • Support career growth and development for the team.

What we’re looking for

  • A proven track record of leading large software engineering teams and driving high performance.
  • Ability to solve complex challenges across people, process, and technology with intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Excellent critical thinking and the ability to offer thoughtful counsel to leaders across the business.
  • Passion for recruiting and developing great engineering talent.
  • Capability to deliver results individually while establishing patterns and practices for teams.
  • Strong communication skills to adapt and engage authentically with any audience.
  • Experience with AWS and understanding of cybersecurity trends.
  • Ability to navigate enterprise policies and tailor solutions to UK/US balance.
  • Comfort managing pragmatic outcomes between short‑term and long‑term business needs.
  • Knowledge of UK/US regulatory, consumer lending and technology landscapes (preferred).

Where and how you’ll work

This is a permanent position based in our London offices. We have a hybrid working model with flexibility to work from the office and home. You will be based in our London office three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
