Disrepair Case Officer

New Today

A South London local authority is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Disrepair Case Officer to join its housing team. This is a key role focused on reducing the risk and cost of housing disrepair while ensuring excellent outcomes for residents and the Council.
You will be responsible for managing disrepair cases from initial complaint through to resolution, with the aim of avoiding litigation wherever possible. This includes investigating claims, coordinating repairs, and working closely with surveyors, contractors, and legal services to ensure cases are handled efficiently and in line with statutory requirements.
The successful candidate will monitor case progress, track associated costs, and provide regular updates on high-risk cases. You will also support legal proceedings when required, including preparing documentation and representing the Council in court. A strong understanding of complaints procedures is essential, as you will contribute to Stage 2 and Ombudsman responses, ensuring residents are kept fully informed throughout.
This role requires excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills, alongside the ability to manage a varied caseload under pressure. Experience within housing, disrepair, or local authority environments is highly desirable, as is knowledge of relevant legislation and compliance standards.
