Job Description

A local authority in the London Area needs to produce a sustainable financial plan for the High Needs Block / DSG by end of May (with finalisation in June), showing how delivery can be maintained without entering deficit.

Job Spec:

  • Job Title: DSG Finance Consultant
  • Organisation: Local Authority
  • Rate: £500+/ day
  • Arrangement: 2 days/ week on site
  • Location: London Area
  • Contract length: 5 months
  • Start date: ASAP

The role:

  • Work closely with the Finance Business Partner, SEND team, and health team
  • Analyse all relevant detail and data
  • Model and project High Needs Block / DSG costs
  • Pull together the financial elements of the SEND Reform Plan
  • Ensure the plan demonstrates long-term financial sustainability (avoiding deficit / debt position)
  • Support broader financial reviews and planning meetings as required

Essential skills:

  • Strong local authority financial background and qualifications (e.g. equivalent to Finance Business Partner level)
  • Thorough, expert understanding of DSG (Dedicated Schools Grant) and High Needs Block
  • Proven experience modelling and projecting High Needs / DSG costs
  • Ability to quickly get up to speed and produce detailed financial plans under tight deadlines
  • Experience producing financially sustainable plans for local authorities (particularly showing how to avoid / manage DSG deficit pressures)
