Salary will be paid at M1 in line with the Outer London Main Pay Scale and is suitable for an Early Career Teacher beginning their teaching career.
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of an Outstanding (Ofsted) rated, heavily oversubscribed secondary school (11–18) in Enfield, North London, seeking a passionate Early Career Teacher (English) to join their successful English department.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT to begin their teaching career in a supportive and well-structured environment, with a strong ECT induction programme, mentoring, and professional development.
The successful candidate will teach English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students develop strong literacy, analytical skills, and a genuine appreciation for literature.
You will be joining a collaborative and experienced department within a high-performing school, making this an ideal role for a motivated teacher eager to develop their classroom practice at the start of their career.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Support students in developing strong reading, writing and analytical skills.
• Prepare students for GCSE English Language and Literature examinations.
• Differentiate lessons to support mixed-ability learners.
• Use assessment data to monitor progress and support attainment.
• Engage fully with the school’s ECT induction programme and mentoring.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop effective teaching strategies.
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour and student achievement.
• Support students in building confidence and independence in their learning.
• Participate in department meetings, CPD, parents’ evenings and school activities.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or currently completing teacher training leading to QTS.
• Degree in English or a closely related subject.
• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and English Literature.
• Ability to deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to professional development and reflective teaching practice.
• Passion for supporting students in developing literacy and analytical skills.
Desirable
• Experience teaching during PGCE or teacher training placements.
• Interest in literacy development, reading initiatives or enrichment activities.
• Ability to contribute to the wider English department and extracurricular activities.
