Electrical Engineer

12 month contract

Glasgow - hybrid working

Join a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for ensuring the integrity, safety, and performance of critical infrastructure supporting complex, high-hazard environments.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of engineering assurance—supporting both current operations and future programmes—focused on high voltage electrical systems that underpin essential services.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineer (High Voltage), you will play a key role in the development, assessment, and maintenance of engineering design substantiation. You will ensure that design intent, safety requirements, and operational performance are achieved in line with industry best practice and regulatory standards.

Working collaboratively across engineering disciplines, you will contribute to the safe design, operation, and lifecycle management of critical infrastructure systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, assess, and manage engineering design substantiation documentation
  • Support and evaluate design changes and technical concessions
  • Contribute to safety justification documentation and technical reports
  • Develop and maintain Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules
  • Participate in safety reviews and performance assessments
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support independent technical assessments and peer reviews
  • Apply engineering expertise to high voltage systems in a high-risk environment
  • Produce robust technical justifications for design modifications
  • Review contractor submissions, calculations, and technical documentation
Requirements Essential Experience
  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer within high voltage (HV) environments (e.g. power distribution networks, substations, cabling)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant British and European standards and engineering practices
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle (concept through to construction and operation)
  • Ability to assess HV plant and equipment against safety and hazard requirements
  • Experience producing technical justifications within regulated or high-hazard industries
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in nuclear, defence, or similarly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with safety case methodologies (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP)
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry-specific codes and standards
Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience)
  • Willingness to undertake nuclear industry training (if not already experienced)
