About the College/Department The Nuclear Skills Academy is the first of its kind and aims to sustain nuclear capability within the UK’s submarines programme by creating a dedicated pipeline of talent at the start of their careers. Based in Derby at the iHub, the Nuclear Skills Academy is a partnership between the University of Derby and Rolls-Royce. The Nuclear Skills Academy team draws upon it's multidisciplinary and award winning skills to facilitate the delivery of apprentices across Levels 2-6.
About the Role Instructor Mentors play a pivotal role in the apprenticeship journey. They are at the front line, delivering sessions, assessing, and carrying out reviews to ensure apprentices gain the skills, knowledge, and behaviours they need to excel. In this role, you’ll deliver high-quality, practical, and theoretical learning in Electrical Engineering, supporting apprentices from their first day through to successful completion.
Working closely with employers and colleagues, you’ll design and deliver engaging, industry-relevant training across areas such as installation, maintenance, fault-finding, and testing. You’ll make full use of the facilities at the Nuclear Skills Academy to provide a professional, hands-on learning experience that prepares apprentices for their roles and end-point assessments.

About You You’ll be at the front line, delivering sessions, assessing, and carrying out reviews. You’ll bring hands-on industry experience, academic excellence, and engaging teaching practice, while being a collaborative team player who contributes to the onward journey at the Nuclear Skills Academy. Apprentices will be at the centre of your work, with values and behaviours embedded from day one and the facilities and resources used to best effect.
You will value interdisciplinary collaboration, industry engagement, and work with stakeholders to deliver an outstanding experience. Ideally, you’ll hold – or be willing to work towards – assessing and verifying qualifications, alongside a relevant Electrical Engineering qualification at Level 3 or above. Your mix of technical expertise and commitment to teaching will help shape the next generation of electrical engineering professionals.
