Electrical Engineering Manager
Location: Nottingham (site-based with travel)
Purpose
Provide electrical engineering leadership across wastewater projects and operational sites, including Senior Authorised Person (SAP) and NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS) duties. Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practice, including design verification and system commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure installations meet company standards, safety rules, and statutory requirements (e.g. BS 7671)
- Conduct audits, inspections, and compliance assessments
- Identify and close out non-conformances
SAP Duties (LV Systems)
- Operate as SAP in line with electrical safety rules
- Manage permits to work, isolations, switching, and energisation
- Maintain authorisation records and provide safety leadership
Safety & Risk Management
- Produce and review RAMS and safe systems of work
- Implement isolation and lockout/tagout procedures
- Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation
NICEIC QS Responsibilities
- Act as Qualified Supervisor ensuring regulatory compliance
- Review and sign off certification (EICs, Minor Works, inspection/testing reports)
- Lead audit preparation and liaise with assessors
- Mentor engineers and electricians
Design & Engineering
- Review and verify electrical designs and specifications
- Carry out calculations (cable sizing, protection, fault levels, load)
- Produce and maintain schematics and drawings
- Support design development, value engineering, and change control
- Coordinate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams
Commissioning & Operations
- Plan and oversee commissioning and energisation activities
- Support testing, fault finding, and system optimisation
- Provide technical support across project lifecycles
- Attend site meetings and design reviews
Documentation & Governance
- Maintain drawings, records, and revision control
- Manage inspection, testing, and commissioning documentation
- Prepare audit and regulatory documentation
- Align with quality systems (e.g. ISO 9001)
Stakeholder Engagement
- Support project delivery with technical expertise
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulators
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Qualifications
- SAP status (LV) or equivalent experience (Essential)
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services (2356-31) and AM2 (Essential)
- NICEIC Qualified Supervisor status or eligibility (Essential)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) (Essential)
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing or equivalent) (Essential)
- Proven competence in electrical design calculations (Essential)
- Experience commissioning electrical systems (Essential)
- Valid ECS/CSCS card (Essential)
- Full UK driving licence (Essential)
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (Desirable)
- Membership of a professional body such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology or working towards EngTech/IEng/CEng (Desirable)
- LV/HV switching authorisation (Desirable)
- IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification (Desirable)
- HV or power distribution training (Desirable)
- Commissioning or site supervision training (Desirable)
- Hazardous area knowledge (ATEX/DSEAR) (Desirable)
- Functional safety awareness (IEC 61508/61511) (Desirable)
- Familiarity with ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) (Desirable)
- Experience with CAD/design tools (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN) (Desirable)
- SMSTS/SSSTS or similar site management training (Desirable)
Additional Information
This role combines office-based work with regular travel to operational sites, including wastewater treatment works and pumping stations. A full UK driving licence is required. Flexibility is essential, as the position may involve out-of-hours support such as emergency call-outs, planned shutdowns, and commissioning activities. The role requires a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, alongside ongoing professional development to maintain competency in SAP, NICEIC QS, and electrical engineering practices. Responsibilities may also include supervising and mentoring junior engineers and electricians.
