1st Step Solutions are supporting a M&E Contractor who have an opportunity for an Electrical Estimator on a permanent basis based in Northampton.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate and competitive electrical cost estimates for MEP projects ranging from £500k to £20m+

Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings, and client requirements

Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams during pre-construction phases

Identify risks, exclusions, and opportunities to add value within the estimating process

Attend tender review meetings and provide detailed breakdowns and justifications

Build and maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners for accurate pricing and lead times

Participate in value engineering exercises and alternative proposals

Ensure compliance with current industry regulations, technical standards, and health & safety expectations

Contribute to post-tender negotiations and project handovers to delivery teams

Skills & Attributes

Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy

Strong analytical and organisational skills

Clear and confident communication (written and verbal)

Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously

Qualifications & Experience

Proven experience in electrical estimating within the building services or MEP sector

Ideally HNC/HND or degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

Experience with estimation software

Competent in reading and interpreting electrical design drawings and specifications
