The Property Department, through its Infrastructure Engineering team, is responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and safeguarding the Bank’s built environment. This includes delivering resilient, high-quality engineering services that ensure business continuity across a complex and critical estate. The department also oversees major capital investment programmes and a range of services such as strategic health and safety, facilities management (reception, help desk, catering, cleaning, and post), and travel services, ensuring the Bank’s facilities and engineering systems remain secure, compliant, and operationally resilient.
The Engineering Team
The Engineering team consists of approximately 56 full-time professionals providing 24/7/365 support across three critical sites. These include office accommodation, production environments, and data centre infrastructure, all requiring continuous, high-reliability engineering support to maintain critical systems.
Job Description – Shift Technician
As a Shift Technician, you will play a pivotal role in delivering reliable, high-performing engineering services across the Bank’s estate. You will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring that critical systems operate safely, efficiently, and without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) using the Planon IWMS platform.
- Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance tasks, prioritising safety, compliance, and operational continuity.
- Conduct daily and periodic inspections of plant and systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose engineering faults, assign appropriate priority levels, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, public health, fire safety, and other essential building systems.
- Support statutory inspections and compliance testing of life safety and critical infrastructure systems.
- Work collaboratively with OEM contractors during planned and emergency maintenance activities.
- Provide accurate updates and technical input for Shift Leader handovers and reporting.
- Act as an Authorised Person (AP) for low voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems in line with the Bank’s Safe System of Work (SSoW).
- Complete mandatory training, assessments, and annual performance objectives.
- Promote a strong Health & Safety culture, acting as a site safety ambassador.
- Ensure service delivery standards and compliance requirements are consistently met or exceeded.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Participate in the weekly on-call rota and support incident response and resilience exercises.
Essential Qualifications & Certifications
- City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to achieve).
- Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance (sponsored by the Bank).
Technical Experience
- Experience using IWMS platforms (preferably Planon) and HMI handheld devices.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, BMS, electrical, public health, and life safety systems.
- Previous experience operating as an Authorised Person (AP) for LV and/or HV systems.
- Familiarity with formal Safe Systems of Work.
- Understanding of statutory compliance and regulatory obligations for building infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
