Job Description

Socode are partnering with a Cambridge-based deep-tech business developing advanced sensor technology at the cutting edge of electronics and micro-scale systems. As their engineering team continues to grow, they’re looking to hire an Electronics Engineer to support the design and development of next-generation sensing hardware.

This is a hands-on role within a fast-moving R&D environment. You’ll be working on precision analogue and mixed-signal electronics, supporting everything from concept design through to board bring-up and validation. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys technical depth, low-noise design challenges and working close to the physics of a device.

What will you be doing?

  • Designing and developing analogue and power circuitry from concept through to tested hardware
  • Creating schematics and PCB layouts using industry-standard CAD tools
  • Developing digital electronics to support sensor signal conditioning and feedback control systems
  • Working on mixed-signal board-level designs integrating analogue and digital subsystems
  • Assembling, testing and debugging prototype circuits and modules
  • Contributing to low-noise front-end electronics development for precision sensor systems
  • Supporting oscillator, timing and frequency control circuitry where required
  • Running electrical test and measurement activities to validate performance
  • Documenting designs, test procedures and results clearly for internal review
  • Collaborating closely with mechanical, firmware and sensor engineers in a multidisciplinary team

What are they looking for?

  • Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • A couple of years’ industry experience designing and testing electronic hardware
  • Solid grounding in analogue and digital circuit design principles
  • Experience using PCB design software such as Altium for schematic capture and layout review
  • Background in mixed-signal electronics at board level
  • Familiarity with low-noise analogue front ends and precision signal conditioning
  • Understanding of control electronics for sensors, including feedback or temperature control systems
  • Comfortable working with test and measurement equipment during bring-up and validation
  • Clear communicator who can work both independently and within a team
  • Able to operate effectively in a deep-tech or R&D-focused environment where priorities can shift

Nice to have

  • Experience with oscillator design, PLLs, gain control circuits or timing systems
  • Familiarity with SPICE simulation, MATLAB or Python for circuit modelling and analysis
  • Exposure to MEMS-based devices or precision electronic instrumentation
  • Experience working on frequency control or high-stability electronic systems
