About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Employee Relations / Casework Specialist to provide expert leadership on complex and high‑risk employee relations matters within a safety‑critical, unionised operational environment.

This role is critical in ensuring employee relations cases are handled lawfully, consistently and with sound professional judgement. You’ll act as a trusted specialist partner to operational leaders and HR Business Partners, supporting robust decision‑making across a wide range of ER issues while protecting operational, legal and reputational integrity.


What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing complex and high‑risk employee relations cases end‑to‑end, including conduct, performance, grievance, absence, capability and dignity at work matters
  • Coaching, guiding and constructively challenging leaders to ensure effective case handling and fair, defensible outcomes
  • Working closely with Legal, HR, Policy teams and Trade Union representatives to resolve issues pragmatically and professionally
  • Maintaining high standards of documentation, governance and consistency, ensuring alignment with policy, employment law and best practice
  • Identifying themes, trends and systemic risks emerging from casework and contributing to the continuous improvement of ER capability across Operations


What we’re looking for

  • Significant experience managing complex and high‑risk ER casework in large, operational and unionised organisations
  • Strong, practical knowledge of UK employment law, ideally within safety‑critical environments
  • Excellent professional judgement, with the confidence to remain calm, credible and effective in sensitive or high‑pressure situations
  • Strong influencing, coaching and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively with senior leaders
  • High levels of resilience, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities at pace
