Recruit our first Employment Solicitor to join the London Legal Team, providing high‑quality legal advice on contentious and non‑contentious employment matters for SGN’s regulated and unregulated group companies. Independently manage a caseload and support senior colleagues, advising on disciplinary, grievance, dismissals, trade union, redundancy, reorganisation, capability, performance, discrimination, whistleblowing, restrictive covenants, settlement negotiations, ACAS conciliations, Employment Tribunal proceedings, workplace contracts, policies and general employee relations. Deliver practical, commercially focused advice to minimise financial, reputational and legal risks to SGN. Participate in the development of procedures and standard‑form precedents to ensure ongoing compliance and protection for SGN. Provide the People Team with timely legal updates and ensure services align with SGN’s internal governance, statutory powers and licence obligations. Maintain key internal relationships and manage external legal panel relationships, championing the reputation of the Legal Services Department.
What You Will Need
Fully qualified solicitor in England, Wales or Scotland with 6–8+ PQE. Extensive experience advising large employer clients on contentious and non‑contentious employment law matters. Proven technical, negotiation and resolution skills, delivering pragmatic commercial solutions. Self‑motivated, proactive, technically accurate with a thoughtful, analytical approach to problem solving. Confidence presenting and advising key stakeholders, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience coaching and mentoring junior team members. Team player committed to continuous improvement and learning new areas of law. Experience working in‑house within the Energy industry is advantageous but not essential.
