Engineer – Highways Preventative Maintenance
- Annual Salary: £39,890 – £44,096 (higher starting point possible for exceptional candidates)
- Location: Depot-based, fully on-site
- Job Type: Full-time
We are excited to announce a new Engineer role within our expanding highways team, crucial for the delivery of preventative highways maintenance programmes. This position offers a supportive environment and a significant pipeline of meaningful delivery work, ideal for a professional ready to oversee and support impactful projects.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage and supervise Clerks of Works carrying out preventative maintenance activities.
- Lead on project and programme management for surface dressing, micro-asphalt, slurry surfacing, and other treatments.
- Undertake engineering assessments and make robust decisions relating to highway condition, design solutions, and treatment suitability.
- Ensure specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements are met on all works.
- Coordinate multiple live projects simultaneously, maintaining strong communication with contractors and internal teams.
- Support programme planning, prioritisation, and delivery.
- Engage with councillors, stakeholders, and operational colleagues as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in preventative highway treatments such as surface dressing, micro-asphalt, and slurry surfacing.
- Strong civil engineering decision-making capability.
- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to supervise staff and provide technical guidance.
- Full physical ability to undertake site visits as required.
Desirable Skills:
- Level 3 Civil Engineering qualification or substantial highways maintenance experience.
- Local authority experience.
- Familiarity with GIS.
- Competent IT skills (Office suite).
