A leading automotive manufacturer based in Walsall is seeking an Engineering and Maintenance Manager. This is a pivotal role requiring a blend of strategic foresight and "boots-on-the-ground" leadership. You will be responsible for the total lifecycle of plant assets, ensuring that maintenance and engineering operations drive maximum uptime, safety, and efficiency in a high-volume production environment.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Oversee all maintenance and engineering operations, developing a robust preventative and predictive maintenance roadmap to minimize downtime.

Operational Compliance: Ensure all machinery and facility operations adhere to strict automotive industry standards, environmental regulations, and Health & Safety legislation.
*
Team Development: Lead, mentor, and upskill a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement (Kaizen/Lean).
*
Project Management: Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, from equipment specification and procurement to installation and commissioning.
*
Budgetary Control: Manage the departmental budget, optimizing spend on spare parts, external contractors, and energy consumption.
*
Problem Solving: Act as the technical escalation point for complex mechanical or electrical failures, utilizing root-cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence.
The Candidate: Essential Criteria

Education: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing) or equivalent senior-level experience.
*
Experience: Proven track record in a Maintenance Leadership role within the Automotive or high-volume Manufacturing sector.
*
Leadership Style: Comfortable leading from the front; a manager who values presence on the shop floor as much as boardroom strategy.
*
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of PLC systems, robotics, CNC machinery, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
*
Quality Standards: Familiarity with IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
*
Mindset: A data-driven approach to maintenance (using CMMS) and a passion for operational excellence.
