Engineering Manager – Water & Wastewater | Manchester (Hybrid)\n\nLocation: Manchester – Hybrid working possible\n\nType: Permanent or Contract (Outside IR35)\n\nWant to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering critical UK water and wastewater infrastructure? Ready to take full ownership of technical leadership, design strategy, and team development on nationally important projects?\n\nOur client is expanding their specialist design function and is looking for an Engineering Manager to oversee mechanical, civil, and process design, ensuring high-quality, integrated solutions across major UK water industry projects.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nLead and develop engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates across multiple projects\nAct as Professional Head for the design function, guiding compliance with technical, professional, and water company standards\nApprove design packages and ensure full integration across disciplines\nIdentify and implement safe, efficient, and value-engineered design solutions\nDrive the adoption of software tools, BIM, and 3D modelling where appropriate\nManage production of design deliverables that satisfy safety, quality, and schedule requirements\nReview, interpret, and brief standards, procedures, and updates to the team\nRecord and track project changes for design packages\nLead estimation of hours and resource planning for design packages\n\nWho You Are\n\nYou’re a strategic, experienced engineering professional who thrives in a leadership role. You bring:\n\n10+ years’ experience in engineering design within the regulated UK water industry\nGraduate or HND qualification\nChartered Engineer status\nProven experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams\nStrong IT and design software skills\nExcellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills\n\n⭐ Desirable\n\nUnderstanding of MEICA, civil, and process design\nTrack record managing multidisciplinary design projects\nFull driving licence and access to a vehicle\n\nThe Projects You’ll Work On\n\nUMON 3 & 4 upgrades at sewage treatment works nationwide\nClean water main replacement schemes across the UK\nIntegrated mechanical, process, and civil designs for both infrastructure and non-infrastructure programmes\n\nWhat’s On Offer\n\nCompetitive salary or strong contract rates (Outside IR35)\nOccasional hybrid working possible after probation\nWorkplace pension & employee benefits scheme (permanent staff)\nOngoing training and career development\nFree parking, on-site gym, showers, and changing rooms\nExcellent transport links (10-minute walk from Old Trafford tram stop)\n\nReady to Make an Impact?\n\nIf you want to lead a high-performing engineering team, deliver meaningful water infrastructure projects, and shape the future of the UK water industry, we’d love to hear from you.
