About the Engineering Manager Role

Responsibilities of the Engineering Manager

Design Authority & Technical Leadership

Hold full design authority for service upgrades, retrofit kits and lifecycle engineering changes
Lead structured design reviews across mechanical, electrical, software and systems engineering
Approve and validate engineered solutions ensuring safety, compliance and manufacturability
Ensure all engineering outputs meet CE, ISO, RoHS, REACH, SEMI and internal quality standards
Embed lifecycle extension, energy efficiency and maintainability into design solutions
Drive engineering best practice, discipline and traceability across global teams
Project & Programme Delivery

Translate high‑level roadmaps into well‑scoped engineering projects
Lead phase‑gate execution, milestone control and cross‑functional resource planning
Maintain project momentum in a fast‑moving environment with shifting priorities
Reduce rework through strong front‑end design, risk management and technical clarity
Act as a key contributor within the global Product Improvement leadership team
Lifecycle, Reliability & Performance Engineering

Use FMEA, 8D, RCA and Weibull methods to drive reliability and reduce field issues
Integrate Voice‑of‑Customer insights and operational data into engineering decisions
Improve uptime, serviceability, lifecycle cost and installed‑base performance
Prevent warranty leakage by ensuring designs are validated, compliant and field‑ready
Cross‑Functional & Global Collaboration

Partner with engineering hubs in Bristol and Burgess Hill
Collaborate with product companies, manufacturing, applications and technical support teams
Work with global engineering partners across EMEA, US and Asia
Promote strong communication, documentation and consistent engineering standards
Requirements for the Engineering Manager Role

Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Systems or related Engineering
Experience in both Design AND Manufacturing environments is essential
10+ years engineering experience, including 5+ years in leadership or design authority roles
Strong background in mechatronics, electromechanical systems or multi‑discipline engineering
Proven delivery of service upgrades, retrofit kits or complex engineering modifications
Strong project and programme leadership in a structured, milestone‑based environment
Solid understanding of CE, ISO, SEMI, RoHS/REACH and related compliance frameworks
Skilled in engineering change control, configuration management and version control
Analytical capability with MATLAB, Minitab or Excel modelling
Excellent communication skills; able to simplify complex engineering topics
Comfortable working with global teams across time zones
Willingness to travel quarterly to Europe, China, Japan and South KoreaAbout You
