Engineering Design Manager – Manchester


We are recruiting a senior engineering leader to manage a multi-disciplinary design team and deliver high-quality water industry designs across major UK projects.


This role is only open to candidates with extensive UK regulated water industry experience.


What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates
  • Act as Professional Head of Design, ensuring compliance with water company and technical standards
  • Deliver safe, efficient, and value-engineered design solutions
  • Oversee production of design packages, ensuring quality, integration, and deadlines are met
  • Drive the adoption of BIM, 3D modelling, and appropriate software tools
  • Estimate design hours and manage project resources


You’ll be working on a strong AMP8 portfolio, delivering projects alongside:

  • United Utilities
  • Severn Trent
  • Anglian Water
  • Thames Water
  • Yorkshire Water


What You Need:

  • 10+ years’ experience in the UK regulated water industry
  • Graduate or HND qualification
  • Strong IT skills
  • Chartered engineer (or working towards)
  • Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary design teams and projects
  • Full UK driving licence


Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of MEICA, civils, and process designs
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
