Shape your future with an Industry Placement
Want to make a real difference for people and the environment? At the Environment Agency, we’re looking for passionate individuals to join us and help tackle some of the biggest environmental challenges.
Our 12-month industry placements start in September and give you hands-on experience while building skills that matter. This is more than just a placement - it’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and explore career pathways that could lead to your next big step.
What you’ll do
You’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of environmental challenges. Depending on your placement, you could:
- Analyse and apply evidence – Work with data and research to inform decisions that protect people and nature.
- Shape sustainable growth – Review planning applications, assess environmental risks, and influence greener development.
- Protect water, land and biodiversity – Support compliance checks, audits, and projects that restore habitats and improve water quality.
- Drive climate action and innovation – Help deliver Net Zero goals, explore digital solutions, and contribute to projects that transform how we work.
- Collaborate and engage – Work with partners, communities, and stakeholders to deliver outcomes that matter.
- Support national resilience – Get involved in emergency planning, flood defence logistics, and incident response exercises.
No matter where you join us, you’ll be part of a purpose-driven organisation tackling issues that really matter - while building skills and networks for your future.
What’s in it for you?
- Invest in your future and the planet. Ethical, career-average pension with around 19% employer contribution — helping you grow your future and support the planet.
- Time to recharge, time to thrive. Enjoy 25 days of annual leave (or equivalent for your work pattern), plus bank holidays, because balance matters.
- Flexibility that works for you. Flexible working where possible - hybrid, part-time or compressed hours.
- Supportive networks that help you thrive. Supportive networks from day one - office buddies, peer groups and mentors to help you settle in, grow and shape your experience.
- Your development, your way. We’ll build a personalised training plan with you and encourage you to be proactive, explore new challenges and make the most of every opportunity.
