Estimator – Groundworks, Demolition & Structures\n\nLocation: Luton\nSalary: £70,000 – £100,000 (CIS or PAYE)\nContract Type: Full-Time, Permanent\n\nRole Overview\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Subcontractor Estimator with a strong background in groundworks, basements, RC frames, demolition, cut and carve, temporary works, and steel frames. This is a hands-on estimating role working solely within the subcontractor sector—candidates with main contractor experience will not be considered.\n\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive cost estimates for a variety of civil engineering and structural projects, ensuring all bids reflect commercial and technical requirements.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * \n\n Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions for subcontractor packages.\n\n * \n\n Analyse drawings, specifications, and project documentation.\n\n * \n\n Conduct material and labour take-offs for groundworks, basements, RC frames, demolition, cut and carve, temporary works, and steel frame works.\n\n * \n\n Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.\n\n * \n\n Review and assess subcontractor pricing and proposals.\n\n * \n\n Identify project risks, programme constraints, and value engineering opportunities.\n\n * \n\n Support commercial teams with bid strategies and pre-tender meetings.\n\n * \n\n Maintain and update internal estimating records and cost databases.\n\nCandidate Profile\n\n * \n\n Proven experience as a subcontractor estimator within groundworks, demolition, or structural packages.\n\n * \n\n Strong knowledge of basements, RC frames, cut and carve, steel frames, and temporary works.\n\n * \n\n Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.\n\n * \n\n Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness.\n\n * \n\n Strong understanding of subcontractor procurement and pricing.\n\n * \n\n Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.\n\n * \n\n Excellent communication and negotiation skills.\n\nPackage & Benefits\n\n * \n\n Competitive salary: £70,000 – £100,000 (CIS or PAYE).\n\n * \n\n Career progression within a specialist subcontractor environment.\n\n * \n\n Exposure to high-value, complex projects across the region
