Position: Fabric Engineer / Handyman
Location: Portsmouth (Static Site)
Salary: £34,000 per year
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Fabric Engineer / Handyman to join our on-site maintenance team at a static commercial location in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a steady MondayFriday routine, working as part of a friendly team and taking ownership of day-to-day building maintenance.
You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality service across all building fabric tasks, ensuring the site remains safe, functional, and well-maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out reactive and planned building fabric maintenance, ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Perform carpentry, basic plumbing, patch repairs, painting and decorating, door repairs, ceilings, flooring fixes and general handyman tasks.
- Conduct regular PPM checks, including emergency lighting tests and fire alarm support.
- Assist with minor electrical tasks (non-certified work only).
- Manage your workload effectively and complete jobs within expected timeframes.
- Ensure compliance with all site health and safety regulations.
- Liaise with site users, supervisors and contractors when required.
- Use a PDA/CAFM system to record jobs (training provided if needed).
- Previous experience in a Fabric Engineer, Handyman, Multi-Skilled Operative or Building Maintenance role.
- Strong all-round building fabric skills (plastering, carpentry, plumbing, decorating, basic electrics).
- Ability to work independently on a static site.
- Good communication and customer-facing skills.
- A positive, reliable and proactive attitude.
- Health & Safetyaware and confident working in a live commercial environment.
- £34,000 annual salary
