Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fabrication Shop Manager to lead our production floor operations and manage our shipping and receiving activities. This individual will be responsible for assigning work orders, supervising shop personnel, tracking manufacturing time, operating a forklift as needed, and ensuring efficient workflow throughout the facility. Strong supervisory, organizational, and computer skills are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the fabrication shop, including welding, assembly, and machining departments
Assign work orders to welders, assemblers, and machinists based on production priorities and deadlines
Monitor employee job performance, provide direction, and ensure adherence to company policies and safety procedures
Ensure employees are clocked in and out of specific work orders accurately for precise job costing and time tracking
Operate forklift to move raw materials, components, and finished goods as needed
Oversee all shipping and receiving activities, including inspecting deliveries, organizing inventory, and preparing outgoing shipments
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with safety and housekeeping standards
Track material usage and inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment and production continuity
Train and support team members on the use of the companys manufacturing software system
Identify process improvements to enhance shop efficiency, accuracy, and output
Provide regular updates and reports to management regarding production progress and shop performance
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role within a fabrication or manufacturing environment
Experience working with welding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes
Proficient in operating a forklift; valid forklift certification or ability to obtain one required
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communicator with the ability to give clear instructions and resolve conflicts
Comfortable using computers; ability to learn and navigate manufacturing or ERP software systems
Experience with shipping, receiving, and inventory control procedures
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or blueprints
Working Conditions:
Hands-on position in a fast-paced fabrication and production environment
May require standing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and operating material handling equipment
Standard work schedule with occasional overtime based on production needs
