Job Description
The Metropolitan Police Estate is one of the UK’s largest and most complex operational property portfolios. We are seeking an experienced Interim Facilities Manager with a strong commercial FM background to support the effective management of facilities services across the estate.
This role requires someone who can quickly adapt, add immediate value, and confidently oversee supplier performance, procurement activity, soft-services contracts, and commercial governance. The successful candidate will support the delivery of safe, compliant and high-performing facilities environments that enable frontline policing to operate without disruption.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a commercially driven, soft-services FM profile, rather than those with a predominantly hard-services, engineering or project-handover background.
Location: London (Different locations)
Contract Type: Temporary 12 months
Payrate: £550 per day Umbrella (Inside IR35)
Vetting: SC (willingness to undergo vetting if not currently held)

The successful candidate will support the delivery of safe, compliant and high-performing facilities environments that enable frontline policing to operate without disruption.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day delivery of soft facilities services, ensuring contract compliance and high-quality service standards across the estate. Manage key suppliers, including cleaning, security, catering, waste, grounds maintenance and other soft-services providers. Lead on contract management, including performance reviews, KPI monitoring, issue resolution and improvement actions. Support procurement activity, including tendering, contract variation reviews, commercial negotiations and supply-chain optimisation. Monitor budgets, cost efficiency and commercial performance across soft-services contracts. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, legislation and operational requirements within an active policing environment. Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the Metropolitan Police to ensure service alignment, transparency and responsiveness. Identify risks, escalate issues and implement mitigation measures to protect operational continuity. Produce reports, updates and recommendations for senior stakeholders, highlighting contract performance, risks and improvement areas.
What We’re Looking ForEssential Experience
Strong commercial FM experience, ideally gained in large, complex or multi-site environments. Proven background in soft-services FM, including supply chain management and contractor oversight. Demonstrable experience in procurement, commercial negotiations, KPIs, SLAs and contract governance. Ability to deliver quick impact in fast-paced or high-pressure operational environments. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Desirable Experience
Experience working within policing, security-sensitive or complex public-sector environments. Understanding of compliance in secure, regulated or mission-critical estates. Experience managing FM within large, multi-disciplinary property portfolios.
Not Suitable
Candidates with predominantly hard-services, engineering or technical M&E backgrounds. Candidates whose experience centres on project-handover, capital works delivery or reactive maintenance leadership.
