Job Description
Do you have a caring nature? Are you looking to make a difference to people's lives? Do you want to work in an environment where no two days are the same? Are you flexible with your working hours? Can you see yourself providing care to adults who need your support?
\nIf you have answered a big YES to these questions we would love to hear from you.
\nAt Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.
\nAs a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.
\nWhere will I be working?
\nNorman Mount is a purpose built house in the BD2 area of Bradford; the house is home to four adults with a learning disability who are supported to live as independently as possible in their home.
\nThis role is for 1-1 support for a lady at Norman Mount for community support and will include supporting her to access activities she enjoys locally, supporting her with her eating/drinking and continence support.
\nWe endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals' lives in a person centred way which includes various activities, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.
\nTraining and Development
\nWe offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.
\n- \n
- Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker \n
- Level 3 Operational Team Leader \n
Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.
\nShift Patterns
\nPlease note that you would be required to work 4hrs per day, across 5 days. Overtime will also be an option at this service.
What will I be doing?
\nThis is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
\n- \n
- promoting the independence of people we support \n
- supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday \n
- arranging activities in the home and in the local community \n
- developing residents' life skills and personal interests \n
- helping residents stay safe and healthy \n
- assisting with personal care needs \n
- manual handling \n
- supporting people with medication including creams and lotions \n
- ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements. \n
What skills and qualities do I need to have?
\nWhilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:
\n- \n
- passionate, caring and enthusiastic \n
- flexible, patient and non-judgemental \n
- a great team player with lots of energy \n
- able to demonstrate good communication skills \n
- able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed \n
As a leading health and social care provider with more than 300 locations across England, we take real pride in the services we offer.
\nWe run all of our services on a not-for-profit basis; instead, we invest every penny back into our services and people. We never stop believing in change for the better, and we work constantly to improve the lives of the people we support.
\nWhat Benefits Will I Receive?
\nWe know reward looks different to each person and so whether its ways to make your money go further, a culture supporting recognition and celebration, or opportunities to boost your career – we want to support you in every way we can with our total reward package.
\nYou will get 29 days’ paid holiday a year, increasing with each year of service up to 31 days. Plus the option to buy additional holidays and spread the cost.
