Cala Homes East is recruiting an experienced Finance Director to join the regional senior leadership team. This is a high‑profile, influential role for a commercially minded finance leader who wants to play a central part in shaping regional performance and supporting long‑term, sustainable growth.
Reporting to the Regional Managing Director, you will act as a trusted adviser to the Regional Board, combining strong financial stewardship with deep commercial insight. You will work closely with colleagues across Sales, Commercial, Land, Construction and Customer Services, helping leaders make confident, risk‑aware decisions in a capital‑intensive and fast‑moving environment.
This role suits someone who enjoys being close to the business, thrives on collaboration, and is motivated by making a visible impact.
As Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial discipline, resilience and forward‑looking control across the region. Beyond core governance and reporting, your most important contribution will be providing insight‑driven, risk‑aware decision support that enables the business to plan, commit and deliver with confidence.
You will be a key member of the Regional Board, helping to balance ambition with disciplined delivery, and ensuring that performance, cash and capital are managed in a joined‑up and sustainable way.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead the preparation of five‑year regional business plans and forecasts, working closely with the Regional Board to set robust and stretching targets
Deliver monthly forecasts of full‑year profit and six‑month cash requirements
Own the monthly regional management accounts, providing clear, insightful commentary on performance, risks and opportunities
Act as a trusted commercial sounding board to the Regional Leadership Team, supporting informed, confident decision‑making
Maintain strict control of cashflow, working capital and WIP in line with sales performance and build programmes
Review and approve weekly and monthly cash reports and supplier payment runs
Promote ROCE‑driven decision‑making, ensuring capital is deployed efficiently and the business avoids over‑trading
Lead structured financial and operational risk reviews, identifying risks around sales rates, land conversion, cost inflation, WIP and programme delivery
Design, embed and monitor appropriate financial controls and governance rhythms to mitigate risk
Continually challenge performance indicators such as sales versus budget, pricing, margin and cost leakage
Strategic Insight & Decision Support
Provide commercial insight and challenge on land appraisals, viability, margin, phasing and risk
Lead scenario planning and stress‑testing of financial plans against changes in market conditions, sales rates, costs and programme timing
Ensure a single, trusted version of financial information is used across the business to support planning and performance management
Implement best‑practice financial processes, driving efficiency and continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and accounting standards, including VAT and SDLT
Lead the regional year‑end process, supporting Group consolidation and working constructively with external auditors
About You
You are a confident, commercially focused finance leader who enjoys influencing, partnering and delivering results in a complex, capital‑intensive environment.
You will bring:
A recognised accounting qualification (CA / ACA preferred; CIMA or ACCA also considered)
Strong commercial acumen with a deep understanding of business drivers
Proven experience of operating at senior leadership or board level
The ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and credibly to non‑finance leaders
A proactive, positive approach, with the credibility to challenge and influence at senior level
