About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance & Income Officer to join a busy public‑sector housing finance team. You will play a key role in supporting income and expenditure activity across temporary accommodation and housing services, ensuring accurate financial records, compliant processing, and effective financial control in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong local authority or housing experience who enjoys working collaboratively across finance, housing, and supplier teams.
Key Responsibilities
Income & Expenditure Support
Provide hands‑on support for income and expenditure activity within a local authority or public sector housing environment, ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled. Maintain robust financial records, ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and agreed deadlines. Support account reconciliations, month‑end and year‑end processes, and investigate variances to ensure financial integrity across housing and temporary accommodation accounts.Purchase‑to‑Pay & Supplier Management
Process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payment in line with financial procedures. Raise purchase orders and requisitions, supporting budget holders to ensure correct coding, authorisation, and audit trails. Assist with accruals, payments, and financial adjustments, working closely with central finance teams to meet reporting deadlines. Liaise confidently with suppliers, internal budget holders, and corporate finance colleagues to resolve invoice queries and discrepancies promptly and professionally.Financial Systems, Reporting & Administration
Use corporate finance systems (including Business World / Unit4) to track expenditure, maintain accurate records, and support financial reporting. Apply strong MS Excel skills to maintain spreadsheets, produce basic financial reports, monitor budgets, and support reconciliation activity. Operate effectively in a high‑volume financial environment, maintaining attention to detail while meeting competing priorities. Maintain clear audit trails and financial documentation to support internal and external audit requirements.
About You
You will bring:
Proven experience working in a local authority or public sector finance or housing environment, supporting income and expenditure activity. Demonstrable experience with supplier invoice processing, purchase orders, requisitions, accruals, and payments. Confidence liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including suppliers, budget holders, housing teams, and central finance. Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and experience using corporate finance systems such as Business World (Unit4). Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced setting.
