We are not just a service provider, rather an essential part of our clients architecture and, ultimately, an extension of your business, a part of one team.Following an extended period of growth, we are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our dynamic and privately-owned mobile engineering maintenance business.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Financial Controller will lead the financial control function, ensuring strong accounting integrity, timely reporting and effective oversight of finance operations.This role will play a key part in stabilising and strengthening finance processes in a fast-growing operational business, improving financial discipline, supporting operational teams and helping build a scalable finance function.KEY RESPONSBILITIESFinancial Control & ReportingOwnership of the month-end close process and production of management accountsEnsure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and balance sheetReview and oversee balance sheet reconciliations and financial controlsManage the preparation of statutory accounts and coordinate the external auditOversee VAT and tax compliance in conjunction with external advisorsFinance Operations OversightProvide leadership and oversight across the finance operations teams including billing, accounts payable, credit control and payroll supportEnsure billing processes are accurate and timely to support strong cash flowStrengthen working capital management and financial discipline across the businessIdentify and resolve operational finance process issuesCash & TreasurySupport oversight of cash management and short-term cash forecastingEnsure timely and accurate bank reconciliationsMonitor payment runs and cash flow visibility across the businessSupport working capital management across billing, collections and paymentsSystems & Process ImprovementDrive improvements in finance systems, reporting and processesHelp establish scalable finance processes as the business growsIdentify opportunities for automation and efficiency across finance operationsTeam LeadershipProvide day-to-day leadership and support to members of the finance team across accounting and transaction functionsPromote strong financial discipline, accountability and professional standards across the finance functionSupport the development and capability of finance team membersHelp establish clear roles, responsibilities and effective ways of working across the finance team and operations Foster a collaborative and professional team culture focused on continuous improvementEssentialQualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)Strong financial control and reporting experienceExperience leading or supervising finance teamsExcellent understanding of accounting principles and financial controlsStrong Excel and financial systems skillsHighly DesirableExperience working in a service, engineering, construction or project-based businessExperience in environments undergoing growth, transformation or process improvementExposure to high-volume billing or operational finance environmentsPersonal AttributesHands-on and pragmatic approachComfortable working in a fast-moving operational businessStrong problem-solving capabilityAbility to work collaboratively with operational and commercial teamsProactive and improvement-focused mindsetTHE PACKAGE A competitive starting salary dependent upon experience and annual pay reviews. 25 Days holiday plus bank holidays.
