Financial Controller Location: London / HybridReporting to: Finance DirectorDirect Report: Finance Manager About Us We are a fast-growing, founder-led luxury fashion brand with an expanding global presence across Shopify ecommerce, UK & US retail stores, and international wholesale. The finance function is established and working well, but as the business grows in scale and complexity, we are looking for a capable and hands‑on Financial Controller to strengthen day‑to‑day controls, improve reporting, and support continued growth. The Role Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take ownership of the day‑to‑day running of the finance function. This is a practical, sleeves‑rolled‑up role in an ambitious SME environment. You will oversee monthly reporting, controls, inventory accounting, and systems management, while managing one Finance Manager and supporting process improvement as we scale. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Controls
Prepare and review monthly management accounts across UK and US entities Ensure timely and accurate reporting with meaningful variance analysis Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial controls Support year‑end audit and statutory reporting Oversee VAT and US sales tax compliance
Systems & Operations
Oversee and optimise use of Xero as the core accounting system Ensure accurate integration between Shopify, POS systems, and accounting Work closely with operations on stock system reconciliations Improve processes and reporting efficiency as the business grows
Inventory & Margin Management
Oversee inventory accounting and monthly stock reconciliations Monitor stock provisions and slow‑moving inventory Ensure accurate COGS and landed cost reporting Support gross margin analysis across ecommerce, retail, and wholesale
Cash Flow & Working Capital
Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts Monitor working capital, including stock levels and debtor management Support budgeting and forecasting alongside the Finance Director
Team Management
Manage and develop the Finance Manager Ensure clear processes and accountability within the team Support continuous improvement of the finance function
Candidate Profile
Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) 4–7 years’ experience, ideally within retail, fashion, or consumer brand Experience in an inventory‑led business Hands‑on experience with Xero Familiarity with Shopify and stock management systems essential Strong attention to detail and control mindset Comfortable working in a fast‑paced SME environment Practical, proactive, and solutions‑focused
