Financial Controller
Middleby UK is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join our senior management team during an exciting period of growth.
This is a pivotal role offering the opportunity to shape and strengthen the finance function while contributing strategically to the wider success of the company.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead a finance team of three (Management Accountant, Credit Controller and Assistant Accountant) and play a key role in driving operational excellence, financial integrity and business performance.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will:
* Define and implement finance strategies aligned to business objectives
* Ensure robust financial controls and compliance across all areas of the business
* Deliver high-quality internal, group and statutory reporting
* Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
* Oversee corporate governance and safeguard company assets
* Contribute as an active member of the Senior Management Team
You will be a positive and influential leader, bringing a supportive, value-added approach to both the finance team and the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
* Produce accurate monthly and quarterly accounts to tight deadlines
* Deliver timely management accounts, KPIs and financial analysis
* Ensure compliance with group and statutory reporting requirements
* Manage VAT, payroll taxes and corporation tax in collaboration with Corporate Tax
* Lead internal and external audits
* Manage credit control and liquidity to ensure strong cash flow
* Monitor overheads against budget and forecasts
* Work closely with Operations and Sales to manage inventory levels, including aged/obsolete stock analysis
Budgeting & Forecasting
* Develop and lead a robust annual budgeting process
* Present budgets to local and group management for approval
* Produce accurate monthly forecasts including sales and inventory projections
* Support longer-term financial planning initiatives
Corporate Governance
* Maintain strong financial processes and internal controls
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation
* Keep senior management informed of regulatory and best practice updates
Leadership & General Management
* Lead, develop and support the finance team
* Work cross-functionally to ensure timely and accurate data flow into Finance
* Support the team hands-on when required to ensure smooth month-end close and partner with IT providers to ensure systems are fit for purpose
About You
You will be a qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICMA or equivalent) with:
* At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a commercial environment
* Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and tax legislation
* Experience in a fast-moving, growing business, proven leadership and team management capability
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels, including internationally
* Advanced IT skills (Excel essential - Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be highly advantageous.
You will be highly organised, detail-oriented, resilient under pressure and flexible in your approach — including a willingness to work outside normal hours when business deadlines require it.
