About the role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer to join a growing team delivering high quality fire safety solutions across West London and surrounding areas. This Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer role focuses on the commissioning, testing, and handover of fire alarm systems, ensuring all installations meet current British Standards and client requirements.


As a Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for configuring addressable fire alarm systems, carrying out detailed system testing, and ensuring full functionality prior to handover. This Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer position involves working closely with installation teams, project managers, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The successful Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer will demonstrate strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication.


Key responsibilities

• Commission fire alarm systems in line with current British Standards including BS 5839 and project specifications

• Configure and program addressable fire alarm panels and associated devices

• Carry out full system testing including cause and effect to ensure correct operation

• Identify and rectify faults during commissioning to ensure systems are fully functional

• Complete final inspections and prepare systems for client handover

• Produce accurate commissioning documentation, test results, and certification

• Liaise with installation engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure smooth delivery

• Provide technical support and guidance to site teams where required

• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations

• Attend site meetings and provide progress updates where necessary

• Support system upgrades, modifications, and troubleshooting of existing systems

• Maintain high standards of workmanship and customer service at all times


Skills and experience required

Essential:

• Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer

• Strong knowledge of British Standards including BS 5839

• Experience commissioning addressable fire alarm systems

• Ability to program and configure a range of fire alarm panels such as Gent, Advanced, Morley, or Kentec

• Solid understanding of cause and effect programming and system integration

• Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications

• Good understanding of health and safety regulations

• Excellent communication and organisational skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects

• Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

• FIA qualifications or manufacturer specific training

• Experience working on large commercial or high rise projects

• Knowledge of other life safety systems such as smoke control or emergency lighting

• Experience supporting installation teams or mentoring junior engineers
