Overview A varied and interesting opportunity has arisen for Forensic Quality Officers to work within our busy team supporting various Digital Forensic or Crime Scene Investigation activities around the region. You will primarily be based from home, but will need to work at least one day per week in an agreed forensic unit and travel across the region to undertake audits or represent the Quality Team at external UKAS assessments, which may require overnight stays. You will assist in gaining ISO accreditation for forensic science activities, supervising and undertaking audits across the South West Region. You must be able to work effectively under pressure with demanding workloads, make decisions in new situations, and possess strong interpersonal skills to liaise at all levels. Good attention to detail and a methodical approach are essential. Experience with quality audits or quality assurance work and the ability to analyse large volumes of information are required. We have 2 vacancies: one permanent full‑time role (37 hours) and one permanent part‑time role (35 hours). Responsibilities
Conduct structured audits and audit reviews of South West Region forensic business processes, ensuring compliance with accredited standards. Review audit findings and drive corrective actions for any opportunities for improvement or non‑compliances. Support units in obtaining and maintaining formal ISO accreditation and compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator's Code of Practice while upholding quality standards. Maintain and develop the South West Region Quality Management System. Control, maintain, and issue all existing and new documents within the Quality Management System. Ensure all duties are completed in compliance with ISO 17020, ISO 17025, and other statutory and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a methodical approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience analysing large volumes of information or data. Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team; experience in quality audits or quality assurance work is essential. Experience managing the audit process within a quality‑accredited environment, including planning, project management, and business improvement work; knowledge of forensic investigations business processes and building internal and external partnerships is desirable. Extensive knowledge of ISO accreditation and willingness to complete ISO Internal Auditors Training, as well as experience assisting or leading ISO accreditation processes. Willingness to travel around the region by car or other transport as required.
