FP&A Senior Analyst (Opex) – Thames Water We are seeking a highly skilled, data‑curious and motivated FP&A specialist to join our Group FP&A Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing in‑depth analysis and second‑line assurance of divisional financial information, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability of financial data and forecasts across the organisation and alignment to organisational strategy. This is an exciting role which occupies a key position in our performance management, planning, analysis, forecasting and budgeting team and requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex findings effectively. What you will be doing as FP&A Senior Analyst (Opex) Financial Modelling & Analysis
Develop and maintain robust analytical models to understand and forecast operational expenditure drivers. Analyse historical performance trends to identify insights, risks, and opportunities. Build forward‑looking models to enhance financial planning capability.
Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long‑term strategic planning cycles. Provide second‑line assurance to ensure the accuracy and consistency of financial forecasts and divisional submissions.
Performance Reporting & Insight
Produce high‑quality analysis, dashboards, and visualisations for senior stakeholders across Finance and the wider business. Investigate performance variances and provide insightful commentary that informs decision‑making.
Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with divisional FP&A teams, HR, Treasury, and Commercial to gather data and validate assumptions. Work closely with the FP&A Manager (Opex) to improve the efficiency, automation, and quality of reporting processes.
Continuous Improvement & Automation
Streamline existing reporting, eliminating non‑value‑added processes. Automate analysis and outputs using Power BI, SAC Planning, or other analytical tools.
Location and Working Hours Hybrid, Reading. Working Hours – 36 hours per week. What you should bring to the role
A qualified accountant with experience in the FP&A function and a proven track record in adding value. Excellent knowledge of providing financial insight, preparing annual plans, forecasts and knowing what ‘good’ looks like. Strong proficiency in data analysis techniques, tools, and modelling. Excellent problem‑solving capabilities with a curious and creative mindset to explore patterns and extract meaningful insights, and a keen attention to detail. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to create complex models and impactful presentations. Ability to manage a short‑term weekly cash flow forecasting on a receipts and payments basis.
